Anne M. Shapiro, Ph.D.

Licensed to practice psychology in Maryland since 2003, Dr. Shapiro obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Colgate University and her Master’s and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from University at Buffalo. While in Buffalo, she trained in neuropsychology at the Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo VA Medical Center, and the University’s Depression Research and Treatment Program. After spending a year at Tulane University School of Medicine as a psychology intern at Charity Hospital focusing on neuropsychology and forensics, Dr. Shapiro completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at the Cortical Function Laboratory and Medical Psychology Clinic at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She has published papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and given presentations at international conferences related to attention, memory, language, depression, anxiety, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, dementia, and aging.

Dr. Shapiro has worked as a clinical neuropsychologist at the Pediatric Psychology Center (PPC) in Rockville, Maryland for the last 14 years and Carroll Counseling Center (CCC) in Mount Airy, Maryland for the last 18 years. At both offices, she has conducted hundreds of comprehensive neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessments with both children and adults who have various diagnoses, including ADHD, Learning Disorder, Concussion, TBI, MS, Epilepsy, Depression and other neurological, neurodevelopmental, and emotional disorders.

Dr. Shapiro attends meetings with local public and private school officials in Montgomery, Howard, Frederick, and Carroll Counties to develop plans that meet the psychoeducational needs of individual students. She also has worked as both a consulting and testifying expert in legal matters and litigation ranging from worker’s compensation and disability claims to family law matters.

Dr. Shapiro resides in upper Montgomery County with her husband, two school-aged children, and the family’s adopted cat and dogs.
