Psychotherapy
UCN provides evidence-based therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and adults. In many cases, psychotherapy can be as effective, if not more effective, than pharmaceutical intervention alone, and is almost always indicated as an adjunct to medication. During the first couple of sessions, the patient and psychologist work together to create treatment goals. Therapy sessions are individually tailored. Our therapeutic approaches include the following:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
- Interpersonal therapy (IPT)
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
- Schema therapy
- Behavior modification / Parent training
Therapy for children and adolescents typically is combined with parent consultation and/or family therapy, in which parents and children participate together. When working with children, parent input regarding the patient’s progress outside of therapy is sought, and instruction on recommended strategies is provided to parents.
